Vancouver, Canada: CDRD, Canada’s national drug development and commercialization centre, congratulates Dr. Alan Winter on being named British Columbia’s first Innovation Commissioner. The creation of this position is a strong indication of the BC’s Government’s commitment to the province’s technology sector, and recognition of the need to nurture BC’s growing innovation economy.

A long-time partner of CDRD through his previous role as President and CEO of Genome British Columbia, Dr. Winter is a true relationship-builder and ardent leader, and will undoubtedly be a tremendous advocate and ambassador for the sector.

Gordon C. McCauley, President and CEO of CDRD remarked, “It is tremendous to see the BC Government take this important step forward in making British Columbia a thriving innovation hub. Having a dedicated Innovation Commissioner will provide a much-needed nexus and dedicated champion for the sector; and we could not ask for a better champion than Alan. His broad experience across technology sectors, his vision, knowledge and relationships will serve us all well as we continue to work together to establish BC as a global innovation leader.”

As BC’s foremost tech advocate, Winter’s mandate will include relationship-building with senior government leaders in Ottawa and with BC’s tech and innovation network, including partners in industry, academia and the province’s regional tech accelerators. By making BC a preferred location for the development of new and emerging technologies, and by building internationally-competitive anchor companies, we have an opportunity to significantly diversify the provincial economy and create new high-paying, knowledge-based jobs.
