Dr. Rivest will share the journey behind how a basic research project investigating the role of the innate immune system in Alzheimer’s disease is now very close to being a new treatment for this devastating disease. This breakthrough is the result of over 30 years of dedicated research and is a significant step forward in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.

About Dr. Serge Rivest

Dr. Serge Rivest is a professor in the department of molecular medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of Université Laval and the scientific director of the CRCHU de Québec – Université Laval, one of the biggest research centers in Canada. He currently holds a Canada Research Chair in Neuroimmunology, which was awarded based on his pioneering work of a natural immune defense mechanism that attenuates Aβ-induced toxicity in the brain in Alzheimer’s disease.  He has also another major project on the role of the innate immune system in multiple sclerosis.
