adMare BioInnovations Achieved Prestigious LEED Green Building Certification

Montreal, QC (April 25, 2023) – adMare BioInnovations is pleased to announce it has achieved LEED® v4 certification for the conception and construction of Building 2 at the Montreal Innovation Centre. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and is administered in Canada by the Canada Green Building Council (CAGBC). LEED is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and an international symbol of excellence. Through design, construction, and operation practices that improve environmental and human health, LEED-certified buildings are helping to make the world more sustainable.

adMare completed the Montreal Innovation Center expansion project in the spring of 2021, adding 51,178 square feet to the 135,000 square feet of the existing building. The Innovation Centre contributes to scientific innovation in the life sciences industry by developing a thriving business ecosystem and a dynamic network. The site is located in the heart of the Montreal Life Sciences and Health Technologies HUB and houses 20+ life science companies. The adMare Montreal Innovation Centre provides these organizations with highly cost-effective, move-in-ready lab, and office space with shared services and facilities to help them scale up.

This new facility demonstrates how adMare is incorporating sustainability into its facilities & operations. The entire team recognized the importance of an efficient design for the global impact of the construction on the environment, but also because of the high energy consumption of laboratory buildings,” declared Dominic Vachon, Senior Director of Operations and Innovation Centres at adMare. “By achieving the LEED® v4 certification, adMare confirms our commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility.

Building 2 of the Montreal Innovation Centre features several innovative solutions that reduce adMare’s environmental impact and enhance the well-being of its employees and residents. Some of these features include:

  • Rainwater management: to best mimic the processes of the site’s natural hydrology, adMare is managing on-site runoff associated with the developed site for the 95th percentile of regional or local precipitation events, using low-impact development (LID) and ecological infrastructure.
  • Reduction of indoor water consumption: by recovering rainwater, a significant reduction of almost 40% of water consumption has been achieved.
  • Optimization of the energy performance of the whole building
  • Green parking: reduced parking footprint and heat island reduction.

LEED is transformative. It ensures buildings are designed and operated to achieve high performance, improve human health, and protect the environment,” said Thomas Mueller, President and CEO, CAGBC. “By prioritizing sustainability, adMare BioInnovation’s project is leading the way in their industry and helping CAGBC build our way forward to a sustainable future.
